Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. to Speak at Interfaith Peace Vigil
In honor of the 49 people killed in the anti-Muslim terrorist attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand Friday, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. and an interfaith coalition of religious leaders and social justice organizations from across Chicago will hold a vigil for peace:
Sunday, March 17, 2019
50 W. Washington
“Chicago stands with Christchurch and with the victims of racial and religious hatred and violence everywhere,” said Rev. Jackson, founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. “We will not let terrorism destroy our ecumenical movement for peace. We will not surrender to fear. We will turn to each other, not on each other, and we will continue to expand our relationship, our coalition of conscience, to make the world safer – with fewer guns and more justice.”
Rev. Jackson, Imams, Rabbis, Christian clergy and representatives from community and social justice organizations will speak out against terror and violence as Chicago comes together to fight hate.
The vigil was organized by the Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition. In addition to the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, more than 20 organizations answered the Civic Coalition’s call for support, including, KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation, Archdiocese of Chicago, Women’s March Chicago, Asian American Advancing Justice and the Downtown Islamic Center.
