October 3, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wednesday, October 3, 2018

Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. invites all to celebrate his 77th birthday at

Rainbow Push Coalition Headquarters.

He’s still fighting for justice.

CHICAGO – On Saturday, October 6, we will be celebrating my 77th birthday at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition national headquarters, 930 E. 50th St. I am inviting you and your family and friends to attend.

There will be a birthday breakfast at 8 AM, followed by our regular Saturday morning community forum and international broadcast at 10 AM, featuring the Rainbow PUSH Coalition Reunion Choir and special musical guest, the 30-member LXW Choir.

After the broadcast, there will be a lunch and birthday cake reception from Noon to 2 p.m. in the Community Hall.

In the tradition of how Dr. King spent his last birthday organizing the Poor People’s campaign, I always celebrate my birthday by working, advocating and/or marching for social justice.

Yes, we are having a party, but it’s a working celebration because there is still so much work to do with just a few weeks left before the crucial midterm elections on Nov. 6.

Everything we’ve fought for – and won – in the last 60 years is under attack: voting rights, worker’s rights, women’s rights, immigrant rights, children’s rights, the right to a decent education, affordable healthcare and environmental protections.

To continue fighting these battles and preparing the next generation of leaders and freedom fighters, we need your presence and participation.

At PUSH, we provide children with free courses in robotics, coding, computer science, architecture, art and oratorical skills. In 2018, PUSH Excel has given $500,000 in college scholarships. And each year we take busloads of area students on a week-long tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Many of the students return home with scholarship offers.

The dream lives on, the struggle continues, but we have the power. If we vote our interests, our needs and our hopes instead of our fears, we will win and turn Nov. 6 into a Jubilee Day.
