Rainbow PUSH/Citizenship Education Fund
Announces STEM Youth Summer Enrichment Camps at Microsoft Stores

CHICAGO – The Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition is partnering with Microsoft to transform technical education and bridge the access divide in STEM. CEF will host students enrolled in summer enrichment programs in the Microsoft Store at The Streets at Southpoint, Durham, NC and in New York City, NY.  The camps will be held between July 15-25, 2019.  The two organizations also recently partnered in an all-day coding event at the Rainbow PUSH/Citizenship Education Fund International Convention in Chicago.

The disparities in access to computing education and social and psychological barriers faced within computing environments impact the interest in pursuing computing majors and the completion of computing degrees among students from diverse backgrounds, according to the Kapor Center for Social Justice.

Microsoft has opened its stores and provided staff and curricula to underserved students.  This effort is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to social corporate responsibility and community outreach.

The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and executive director of CEF stated, “We are excited to be working with Microsoft to expose students to coding, robotics, website development, and other technical areas to bridge the technology gap in underserved areas.  This effort is a matter of expanding opportunities for the next generation of leaders.”
