“Forty one years after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we commemorate his life and legacy and celebrate our accomplishments; but we must be reminded that we still have work to do. The National Urban League’s 2009 State of Black America report reminds us that blacks have the highest infant morality rate and the lowest life expectancy; are number one in home foreclosures, due to sub-prime loans; are number one in lack of access to capital; are twice as likely as whites to be unemployed, and six times more likely to go to prison.
This April 4th we rededicate ourselves to the mission of Dr. King. We will not allow one bullet to kill our entire movement for justice and a more perfect union.”
